In just a couple of days, the Iowa General Assembly will convene for the start of the 2015 legislative session.
Mark Twain famously said, “No man’s life, liberty or property are safe while the legislature is in session.”
That is as true today as it was back then, and it is as true at the State level as it is at the Federal level.
It is especially true in Iowa, where a divided state government often results in backroom deals and hasty compromises that result in you and I picking up the tab – in dollars and in freedom.
For gun owners in 2015, our mission is two-fold.
First, Iowa Gun Owners is committed to not losing any ground in the 2015 legislative session.
After the results of the election in 2014, where many gun-grabbers went down in defeat, you would think it would be a no-brainer that gun-control activists in Des Moines would pack it up and go home.
But they’re not.
In fact, gun control activists in Iowa have already announced their intentions to double their efforts in 2015, with a host of regulatory and administrative changes designed to make it harder for you and I to carry a firearm for self-defense.
The Iowa State Sheriffs’ and Deputies’ Association (ISSDA) has come out, in partnership with the Iowa State Association of Counties(ISAC), to push this anti-gun legislative agenda.
Newly appointed Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, Senator Steve Sodders, is a notorious anti-gun legislator who will no doubt do what he can to work alongside these radical organizations.
So you and I have to be ready.
I can tell you that here at Iowa Gun Owners, we are getting prepared for whatever they throw at us.
And part of that preparation includes you! Mobilized gun owners are the key to all of our successes here at Iowa Gun Owners.
Your phone calls, your emails, your Facebook messages, and your trips to the Capitol are the ammo that we use to shoot down gun control in all of its ugly forms, state-wide.
We hope you’ve had a relaxing Holiday season; it’s about time to get busy as we work together to defend your freedom!
Secondly, Iowa Gun Owners will be working hard to get recorded roll-call votes on Constitutional Carry and Stand-Your-Ground legislation.
In coming emails, we will inform you about these bills, the brave legislators who will be sponsoring these bills, and how you can do your part to see these bills advance here in the state legislature.
The greatest force in politics is always inertia: as most legislators are afraid to do anything that will make anyone mad at them, at any time.
And that’s why we’ll need your help moving these bills forward, even in the House, where many legislators are pro-gun.
Some of the key members of the Iowa House have not always been overly friendly towards gun owners’ interests in the past, and some are downright hostile.
For today, please do the following things:
>>> Take a moment to learn who your State Representative and State Senator is.
If you don’t know who they are, take a moment to click here to find out. These are the men and/or women you will have to hold accountable, making sure they defend your gun rights.
>>> Take a moment to get ALL of your friends involved.
If every gun owner in Iowa would get three or four of their friends involved with Iowa Gun Owners, our rights would be vastly more secure.
If your friends want to join Iowa Gun Owners, they can certainly do so here, if they want to receive emails from Iowa Gun Owners, they can do so here, just fill out the box on the right.
If your friends want to be a part of Iowa Gun Owners’ over 80,000 Facebook activists, they can certainly “Like” our page today by clicking here, but no matter what, get your friends involved in this fight right away!
We will be announcing our legislative bill sponsors for the 2015 session shortly, please make sure to thank our bill sponsors – as the liberal media, anti-gun activists in the Capitol, and anti-gun legislators do their best to shut down these legislators for their strong support of your gun rights.
And if you have not yet had a chance to renew your membership with Iowa Gun Owners, please click here today to become a supporting member for 2015.
Get ready folks – it’s going to be a very busy legislative session!
For Freedom,
Aaron Dorr
Executive Director
P.S. In just a couple of days, the Iowa legislature will convene the 2015 legislative session.
Gun owners need to be wary, as anti-gunners across the state have announced their intentions to move regulatory and administrative gun control measures this legislative session.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Steve Sodders, who has a long history of voting against the Second Amendment, will no doubt be a very friendly ally for these forces.
At the same time, it’s incumbent upon us to get all of the legislators on the record on Stand-Your-Ground and Constitutional Carry legislation, with recorded roll call votes.
Take a moment today to learn who your legislator is, and get your friends involved in the work of Iowa Gun Owners by “Liking” our Facebook page.
Get ready to defend your rights, it’s going to be a very busy session!
