SAPA is Under Attack in the Senate…

Late last week we told you that the Iowa Senate Judiciary Sub-Committee passed the Second Amendment Preservation Act by a vote of 2-1, setting the stage for a vote in the full committee.

That’s great news, and to have it happen so early in the session is a great thing for gun owners. But sadly, that’s where the good news stops.

You see, the day after Senate File 2002 passed through the sub-committee, Republicans in the Senate began telling the Des Moines Register that they are open to weakening the bill!

For those who might not know what we’re talking about, the Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA for short) is groundbreaking legislation that orders Iowa cops to enforce Iowa laws when it comes to firearms, ammunition, and accessories.

In other words, Iowa cops may not be commandeered and forced to enforce Joe Biden’s gun control agenda, whether that be new federal gun control laws or Executive Actions!

And by denying Biden the assistance of state and local resources, the left knows that their gun control agenda will fall flat on its face since they lack the manpower to enforce these laws on their own.

This isn’t a theory. This is already happening in Missouri, where their legislature passed this same legislation into law last year.

(I know a lot about this situation, since I ran the lobby efforts for this legislation, on behalf of our sister group in Missouri. Read more on that, here.)

But what makes Missouri’s SAPA law so powerful — and what makes Iowa’s Senate File 2002 so powerful — are the civil penalties that we built into this legislation.

You see, if we pass SAPA and tell Iowa’s police and sheriff’s departments to only enforce Iowa laws when it comes to firearms and ammunition, it’s a guarantee that some departments will break the law.

That’s why we put teeth into SAPA. If Des Moines City Mayor Frank Cownie orders the Des Moines Police Department to violate SAPA law and enforce federal gun control laws, individual gun owners could sue the department in civil court!

And with civil penalties starting at $50,000 per violation, it’s the insurance underwriters who will ensure that SAPA is not violated here in Iowa.

But all of that could change if Iowa Senate Republicans agree to weaken SAPA and remove the teeth in order to please anti-gun law enforcement lobbyists in Des Moines. And that’s exactly what’s being talked about right now behind closed doors.

We can’t let them get away with this. If SAPA passes without teeth, then gun owners will have ZERO protections from federal tyranny — while the politicians who pass it will be able to use it as fodder for their upcoming elections.

That’s why I hope you’ll immediately send your PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL to your State Senator, telling him that SAPA isn’t some gimmick and it’s damn sure not an election year stunt. Insist that they pass it as-is!

After your emails have been submitted to your legislators, you’ll be taken to a confirmation page and given the chance to donate to help Iowa Gun Owners maintain the fight for SAPA.

Please consider a gift of $25, $50, $75 or even $100 to help us keep pushing for this legislation.

Biden’s first Executive Orders attacking gun owners are set to take effect very soon, so please act fast!

P.S. Hours after the Senate Judiciary Sub-Committee passed the Second Amendment Preservation Act last week, members of the Senate are openly telling the Des Moines Register that they are open to weakening the bill — making it all-but worthless.

We can’t let this happen! If you agree, send your email today!
