Politicians listen to one thing — political pressure in their districts.
Anyone who tells you otherwise, especially if it’s your local legislator, is naïve or trying to sell you something.
We’ve seen this time and time again, most recently in our fight to advance Stand-Your-Ground law: grassroots pressure works!
That’s why, during the summer and fall months before the 2018 legislative session, Iowa Gun Owners is working overtime trying to obtain as many signed petitions as possible!
We hope to walk into the Iowa Capitol with a mountain of these signed petitions in early January, and we are counting on your help.
That’s why we’re sweetening the deal between now and September 22. More on that below.
Next session will present us with a major opportunity for us to take the next step in the fight for gun rights here in Iowa.
Gun owners cleaned house last fall by removing Mike Gronstal and five more of his colleagues from the Senate for their years of blockading gun bills like Constitutional Carry and Stand-Your-Ground law.
With your help, we rammed Stand-Your-Ground legislation into law last session. Now it’s time that we finish the job, by making Constitutional Carry a reality!
Despite what you’ll hear from the FAKE NEWS from Sioux City to the Quad Cities, Constitutional Carry does not lead to ‘blood in the streets’ or vigilante justice.
Frankly, I’m tired of hearing this stuff from liberal op-ed boards, and I’m sure you are too.
They predicted wanton violence when we passed ‘Shall Issue’ legislation in 2010. They said the same thing this year, when we passed Stand-Your-Ground law.
And they’ll say the same thing next session.
Yawn, what else is new?
As a reminder, Constitutional Carry is a very straight forward concept: if you’re legally allowed to own a firearm, you’d be legally allowed to carry that firearm for any lawful purpose with no additional paperwork or permits required.
If you want a permit for reciprocity purposes or for any other reason, you’d still be free to do that, as Constitutional Carry doesn’t phase out the permit but rather makes it optional.
However, if you don’t want to pay fees, go through the bureaucratic paperwork process, and be added to a database just to exercise your constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms, you wouldn’t have to.
That’s the system that our neighbors in Kansas and Arkansas enjoy, not to mention gun owners in Alaska, Vermont, Maine, Wyoming, Arizona, West Virginia, Idaho, Mississippi, North Dakota and neighboring Missouri.
It’s time that Iowa joins them!
