I need your help. Please read this article in its entirety and take immediate action!
If you’ve been involved with Iowa Gun Owners for any length of time, you’ll know how hard we fight to expose insider gun control deals being hashed out in committee rooms in the State Capitol – but also those being considered in quiet small town City Council chambers across our state.
Thanks to our over 175,000 activists on Facebook – we have a great network of activists who call us the minute they hear of a local gun ban being proposed in their community.
Last month alone, tips from our members led to us ultimately engaging all of you and together we defeated a gun ban proposal in Belle Plaine and another (for the moment) in Winnebago County.
But these gun-grabbers never tire in their assault on our rights. Thankfully, you never tire in your defense of them, and the tips keep coming in to our office.
By the way, if you’re not on our Facebook page, be sure to ‘Like’ our page today.
The fight to defend the 2nd Amendment moves fast and we don’t always have time to send out emails. Our massive Facebook page is a great resource and allows for instant updates.
One such tip came into our office over the weekend, this time from little Kalona, IA – located in rural Washington County.
Iowa Gun Owners has a history of stopping local gun bans in Washington Co. It was just over a year ago when gun owners defeated the proposed gun ban in nearby West Chester, IA.
Now gun owners are calling for your help again!
Here’s the situation.
The City of Kalona, being pressured from the Library Board, is taking action to disarm gun owners on city property.
At their meeting just last week, the city council tasked their city administrator with researching whether or not they should ban guns in the library only or city wide!
This would disarm citizens in places like the library, the aquatic center, the campground complex, the community center, the town hall and more!
The reason for this push to ban guns: a gun owner legally carried in a city building recently, caused no problems, committed no crimes, and left the city property going about his business.
(Kalona, IA, located in Washington Co, is quietly hoping to disarm law abiding citizens on public property in ‘their’ town.)
Now Kalona is preparing to ban your ability to defend yourself in ‘their’ town!
Of course, if Kalona proceeds with this gun ban it would be in violation of Iowa code 724.28 which clearly states:
A political subdivision of the state shall not enact an ordinance regulating the ownership, possession, legal transfer, lawful transportation, registration, or licensing of firearms when the ownership, possession, transfer, or transportation is otherwise lawful under the laws of this state.
In other words, the Kalona City Council doesn’t have the authority to ban guns on their property.
But that’s not stopping them, and that’s why gun owners in Kalona are begging their fellow gun owners for immediate help.
That’s why I hope you’ll contact the members of the city council, listed below, and let them know how you feel about this crack down on the 2nd Amendment!
Remind them that they don’t own any property in Kalona – that it’s the citizens of Kalona, many of whom are gun owners, whose taxes purchase and maintain these buildings.
Remind them that their attempts to ban guns on city property are in violation of state law!
Remind them that ‘gun free zones’ have claimed dozens of lives this year alone, and that this outrageous plan would only endanger the lives of the law abiding citizens of Kalona – as only the law abiding would follow such a silly law.

Understand this, ALL gun owners need to get involved and make calls – whether or not you live in Kalona or Washington County!
Politics runs on momentum. If city governments in one community are able to ban your Constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms – then other towns will IMMEDIATELY try to follow suit.
That’s why Iowa Gun Owners fought so hard last year to successfully block these attempts in towns like Nevada, George, Tama, West Chester, Burlington, Dubuque and more. We can’t let them get away with this!
After about a year-long wait, anti-gun city councils are trying this again. We stopped two last week – we need to stop this one too!
So please make your calls and then send this email to every one of your friends, fellow gun owners, family members and anyone else you can think of to make sure that they get involved.
Our forefathers fought and died to give us the freedoms that we enjoy today. It’s up to us to fight to defend those rights – to ensure that our children and grandchildren inherit the same rights that you and I did.
The attack on these rights being carried out in Kalona, IA, right now is insulting to the 2nd Amendment and law abiding gun owners everywhere.
That’s why I’m urging you to get involved and make you calls right away!
Your donation will enable us to carry out this plan and prepare for the next one. Please consider making a contribution today!
Whatever you do, make your calls today – that’s most important!
For Freedom,
Aaron Dorr
Executive Director
P.S. They are popping up like flies – another Iowa town is trying to ban law abiding gun owners from carrying concealed on city property – in direct violation of Iowa code 724.28, and gun owners are asking for YOUR help.
This time it’s the Kalona, IA, city council that’s quietly moving to restrict your ability to defend your family while doing business at the library, the aquatic center, the campground complex, the community center, the town hall and more!
It’s against state law, it’s a violation of the 2nd Amendment, it’ll make citizens in Kalona sitting ducks in the event of a violent crime – and it’s just downright insulting to the gun owners whose taxes purchase and maintain the very property they’d now be barred from carrying a defensive firearm on!
That’s why I hope you’ll call the council members right away! If this happens in one Iowa community with no outcry from gun owners, it’ll be happening in towns all over the state.
