As you know, for months now the Iowa Senate has been blocking Stand-Your-Ground (SF137) and Constitutional Carry (SF400) legislation from moving forward in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
This despite tens of thousands of calls, emails, Facebook messages and more from gun owners across the state all demanding just one thing – the restoration of our basic human right of self-defense via Stand-Your-Ground legislation.
24 Iowa State Senators have cosponsored this vital legislation, being offered by Senator Rick Bertrand (R-Sioux City), making this bill just two votes short of passage!
But Senate leadership, controlled by the radically anti-gun Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, has consistently worked to kill this bill.
At the same time, anti-gunners have a problem because they know what has happened to their anti-gun colleagues in recent elections once Iowa Gun Owners exposed their anti-gun record and support of Michael Bloomberg-styled gun control.
That’s why, after months of stalling, ignoring, and flat out lying to gun owners about the status of Iowa’s gun laws and the legislation put forth to address the problems in Iowa code – the Senate leadership moved late yesterday to offer a trinket to gun owners, and there is a chance that we’ll see a vote today on a suppressor bill.
Don’t get excited.
This is a scam. A joke.
It’s a desperate ploy being offered by desperate politicians who have spent this entire session killing one gun bill after another and are only now offering the very least that they can offer in an attempt to placate and shut down gun owners like you.
Iowa Gun Owners isn’t pushing for this.
The National Rifle Association isn’t pushing for this.
No state group in Iowa is pushing for this.
This bait and switch ploy is a slap in the face of every gun owner who is scared to defend himself in public for fear that some anti-gun prosecutor is going to make an example out of him because we lack a Stand-Your-Ground law.
It’s a slap in the face of every gun owner who knows that fellow gun owners in Alaska, Vermont, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, and soon Kansas don’t need to beg government permission to carry a defensive firearm because the legislature in those states have already enacted Constitutional Carry legislaiton.
It’s a slap in the face of every gun owner in Iowa who currently has to break the law to teach his children or grandchildren to shoot a handgun if they are under the age of 14.
The Senate leadership is desperately hoping that you’ll take the bait, forget about all the bills that gun owners have spent over three months working on and that the Senate has killed, and support them with open arms when they ask for your vote during their re-election efforts next year.
Don’t fall for it.
At this very moment, Senator Rick Bertrand is working to have Stand-Your-Ground and Constitutional Carry legislation added to this underlying legislation via amendments – but he needs your help!
The Senate can very easily add these amendments to the underlying bill and, in one fell swoop, add tremendous protections to Iowans who carry firearms for self-defense.
This is the chance that gun owners have been waiting for all year!
So please call the Senate IMMEDIATELY and demand that your Senator back the amendments being offered by Senator Bertrand to add Stand-Your-Ground and Constitutional Carry to the bill being brought up today!

Over half the country already has Stand-Your-Ground law. It’s time that Iowa join that list. Demand that the Senate support the amendments being offered by Senator Bertrand!
Remind them that you’re aware of the games and gimmicks that they are offering and that you’re not falling for it.
Remind them that you’ll remember whether or not they support Stand-Your-Ground and Constitutional Carry when Election Day rolls around.
