Politicians lie. Everyone knows it, and everyone hates them for it. As Iowa’s leading gun rights organization, we expect politicians to keep the campaign promises that they made to gun owners. And when they break those promises, we hold them accountable! Sure, there are plenty of organizations in the Capitol who will protect liars because they are desperate to remain in their good graces, but Iowa Gun Owners has never been that kind of an organization. Here in Iowa, virtually every single gun owner in the state knows about Lyin’ Dan Dawson. Senator Dawson, from Council Bluffs, signed and returned a simple 9 question survey when he first ran for office back in 2016. In his survey, Dawson specifically promised gun owners that, if elected, he would champion Constitutional Carry legislation by cosponsoring the bill. It was based on that promise, that Iowa Gun Owners flooded Council Bluffs and Carter Lake with tens of thousands of dollars in radio and TV ads, direct mail, slicks, and more! But Dawson lied. The moment he got sworn in at the Capitol he turned his back on the very people that won him his election — mobilized gun owners in Council Bluffs. To this day, four years later, Dawson has refused to keep his word — and attacks gun owners who dare to question him on it. I don’t know about you, but I still believe that the politicians in Des Moines work for you and me. And I still believe that that when you give your word, you’ve given your bond. Dawson’s active efforts to kill this bill, as the past Vice-Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, resulted in the death of Constitutional Carry for the last four years in a row. In these last four years — while Lyin’ Dan Dawson attacked Constitutional Carry — South Dakota passed it. So did Kentucky. So did New Hampshire. So did Oklahoma. So did North Dakota. In fact, right now, gun owners in almost 1/3 of America enjoy Constitutional Carry law, but here in Iowa, thanks to Dawson, we are still required to add our name to a government database to carry a firearm for self-defense. This is outrageous. And that’s why Iowa Gun Owners has commissioned a series of billboards that are going to run in the Council Bluffs market for the foreseeable future — reminding gun owners there that they have been lied to! Gun owners in Iowa are done playing games with these lying scammers, who are simply trying to ‘farm’ gun owners for their votes at election time, only to screw us over once in office!
