They are at it again.
The Des Moines Register’s incredible bias against guns, gun owners, and our basic freedoms is so intense that several months ago they allowed their editorial board to call for violence against pro-gun politicians.
Of course, if you or I did this to anti-gun politicians we’d likely wind up in jail.
But for them, it’s “protected speech.”
Well, in that same vein, yesterday’s “protected speech” from the Des Moines Register meant that they released an online interactive map of every school in Iowa showing which schools have armed security and which ones do not!
Can you believe this?
The next heavily armed thug who decides to commit his acts of violence may occur in Iowa…and if it does…the Des Moines Register just provided them with a map of where to go to get the highest body count!
Think about this.
What if you children or grandchildren go to one of the schools that doesn’t have security?
This should make you absolutely furious.
Thankfully, WHO Radio’s Simon Conway broke this story yesterday and through his efforts and those of his audience the paper has removed this portion of the story for the time being.
But the damage has been done.
This is especially outrageous since just this morning the state attorney’s office in Connecticut released the details regarding the horrific school shooting that took place there last December.
The facts are chilling.
Over 150 bullets were fired, 26 dead – in 5 minutes time.
Five minutes.
Do you think that the cops could ever get there in time here in Iowa – even in a metro area?
What about the St. Ansgar “Saints?”
What about the Griswold “Tigers?”
What if your child or grandchild is a Sibley-Ocheyedan “General?”
Your children and grandchildren would have virtually no chance!
And now, the bad guys know exactly where to go.
But between their previous call for violence against gun owners and their releasing the location of your child’s school’s security arrangements, feel free to contact the Des Moines Register and let them know what you are thinking –you can call them at 515-284-8000.
Lastly, it’s even more obvious that the only chance our children have here in Iowa is an armed teacher with a gun.
IGO worked with Senator Sorenson and Representative Tom Shaw to introduce the Safe Schools Act 2013 in the General Assembly this session.
But neither Senate Leader Mike Gronstal nor House Leader Linda Upmeyer saw fit to advance this legislation through their respective legislative chambers before the funnel deadlines killed them.
But they still can.
Both of them have the authority to advance “leadership bills” that are immune to the deadlines. They can pick this issue up right now if they so choose.
So take a moment to contact Linda Upmeyer, House Majority Leader at [email protected] and urge her to make this a priority.
Do the same with Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal by emailing [email protected] as soon as possible.
Don’t let these legislators get away with taking no action when our children and teachers are left vulnerable!

P.S. After calling for violence against pro-gun politicians last December, the Des Moines Register now published an interactive map detailing which schools in Iowa have security and which ones do not – making it super easy for an armed criminal to get the highest body count possible!
This is simply outrageous!
Thanks to Simon Conway, of WHO Radio, who exposed this debacle – the map has been removed.
But this is just the latest in a litany of awful anti-gun decisions made by the Des Moines Register so call them and let them know how you feel at 515-284-8000.
Also, we learned today that the shooter in Connecticut racked up a body count of 26 people in under 5 minutes!
5 minutes, in one of the most densely populated states in the county. Imagine how much time someone would have in rural Iowa – especially knowing that there is no security there.
The only solution is arming teachers and staff. So contact House Majority Leader Linda Upmeyer and Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal and urge them to run a “leadership bill” this session to ensure that Iowa’s children and schools are more protected!
You can contact them at [email protected] and [email protected].
