The Senate Sub-Committee hearing on Stand-Your-Ground law (HF517) will be taking place at 3pm today — which is why it’s urgent that you contact the sub-committee members right away!

Stand-Your-Ground law faces fierce opposition from Michael Bloomberfront-groups, and anti-gun special interest organizations in the Capitol.

And of course, as we all know, radically anti-gun media outlets from Council Bluffs to Cedar Rapids and everywhere in between are doing whatever they can to stop this bill.

Of course, Stand-Your-Ground law is a simple concept.

If you or your loved ones are attacked in a public place, you’d be able to stand your ground and defend yourself without having to retreat first.

As a former police officer, I can tell you that the last thing you want to do when facing a lethal threat is try to move backwards!

But sadly, as Iowa doesn’t have this legislation, anti-gun county prosecutors have been able to wrongfully prosecute gun owners for simply defending themselves.

These politically driven prosecutions would stop with passage of Stand-Your-Ground law. That’s why it’s urgent you contact the sub-committee members right away!

This is a critical juncture for this legislation, as anti-gunners often try to offer up amendments to “make the bill easier to pass.”

In fact, it happened to this bill over in the House, where the immunity language was initially removed from this bill in a House committee hearing.

    While not changing the laws on when you can use defensive force, Stand-Your-Ground law simply states that I’d no longer have to retreat from a violent criminal before I defend myself and my family.

    Almost three dozen other states have this legislation in place — including our neighbors in Missouri who enacted it just last year — and it’s time Iowa do the same.

    Please move the bill through your sub-committee right away with no weakening amendments.

    Gun owners made their voices heard last fall in Iowa, by unseating half a dozen Senators who had blocked this legislation from advancing in years past.
